Yahoo! Mash – Smashed!

Yahoo! by now must have learn’t that they cannot run a Social Network site. First was Yahoo 360, then a failed deal with Facebook, then again a failed deal with Bebo, and now Yahoo! Mash. That’s four failures with Social Networking sites.

Yahoo! Mash will be shutting down on September 29, 2008. I just had an unfinished profile there and visited it maybe a total of 5 times ever. Do you have a Mash profile? Did you ever use it seriously?

Google Suggest out of Google Labs

Google Suggest is finally out of Google Labs. So where did it go? You’ll see it under the “Graduates of Labs” list and on the Google.com homepage.

The question is still there? Do you think this feature will help you more or just be an irritating element while you use the search engine everyday?

Google Suggest To Finally Come to Google.com, Officially!

Google Suggest will be finally “graduating” from Google Labs and available by default on the Google.com homepage.

As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses what you’re typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to Google’s “Did you mean?” feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, except that it works in real time. For example, if you type “Goo,” Google Suggest might offer a list of refinements that include “Google Images”, “Google Mail”, “Google Maps” etc.
Google SuggestGoogle says this feature has been a long time coming which has already made it’s way to it’s Toolbar, Firefox search box, Maps and Web Search (for select countries), the iPhone, YouTube. And now it’s Google.com’s turn!

According to the Official Google Blog, this feature will help formulate queries, reduce spelling errors and save keystrokes

They’ll be rolling this out over the next week so that more and more of it’s users will start seeing a list of query suggestions when they start typing into the search box.

Do you think this feature will help you more or just be an irritating element while you use the search engine everyday?

After much fiddling, online discussion and frustration, they’ve come up with two solutions that seem to work: feed Twitter into Jaiku, then into Jaiku again OR Redirect emails to your phone (only on Orange, O2 and T-Mobile).

Google Can’t Translate From English to English!

Hey Google! We found one more Google Glitch for you. This time its on Google Translate.

Seems Google doesn’t know how to translate a text phrase for English to English!
Google Translate GlitchVisit this page and type in any word or a phrase and hit translate – see for yourself.

If you try translating something in the same language it says “We are not yet able to translate from English into English.

This glitch is not just for English but for all languages.

What say? Do we need to teach Google to translate from one language to that same language? Yeah, I guess!

Add Different Meta Tags To Different Blogger Posts

A lot of you asked on how to add separate META Tags to some of your Blogger posts.

Here it goes.

  1. Switch to the Edit HTML tab of your template and find this line:
    <b:include data='blog' name='all-head-content'/>
  2. Add this code just below that line:
    <b:if cond='data:blog.url == "http://YOUR-BLOG-URL.com/"'>
    <meta content='DESCRIPTION' name='description'/>
    <meta content='KEYWORDS' name='keywords'/>
    </b:if>

    This was done to add META Tags to the main page of the blog.

  3. Now add this code just below the code you add just now:
    <b:if cond='data:blog.url == "http://YOUR-BLOG-URL.com/2008/08/bla-bla-bla.html"'>
    <meta content='Type you post description here.' name='description'/>
    <meta content='Type, the, post, keywords, here' name='keywords'/>
    </b:if>

    Replace http://YOUR-BLOG-URL.com/2008/08/bla-bla-bla.html with the URL of the specific post you want to change the META Tags of.

  4. Repeat Step 3 for as many blog posts you want to have unique META Tags for.
