It time for Firefox 3!

Alright all those Firefox fans (if you haven’t used Firefox yet, you are missing the experience of the best web browser ever – and it just got better) its time to download the all new version of Firefox from the Mozilla Den – Firefox 3!

Here are a few features of Firefox 3 to make you more excited:

  1. Improved performance – Firefox’s engineers claim that their third major release is 9.3 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 in JavaScript performance, and 2.7 times faster than Firefox 2.
  2. Smart Location Bar – Firefox 3’s address bar, now dubbed the Smart Location Bar, helps you get to your frequently visited, or recently discovered, sites in super-quick fashion.
  3. All new Places Organizer – Firefox 3’s new Places Organizer, helps those with reams of URLs find them using boolean rule searches and multi-column results, as well as keep them better organized with a tagging system.
  4. Smart bookmarks – Much like iTunes’ Smart Playlists, Firefox 3’s new Smart Bookmarks function can analyze your browsing habits and create lists of links based on it.
  5. Streamlined “Remember password” handling – It only asks you to utilize its password-saving function once you’re already in and sure everything worked, and it won’t block you from seeing the logged-out version of a page if you don’t want to sign in.
  6. Native looks – Your browser is a serious part of your computer time, so having it look like nothing else on your system can be seriously annoying. Even Windows XP’s and Vista’s button layouts have subtle differences in color and shading.
  7. Improved download manager – Firefox 3’s download manager lets you search through recent files, resume big downloads after a crash or restart, and lets you keep an eye on your transfers in the status bar.
  8. Improved phishing and malware protection – Firefox 3 has stronger filters and protection against malware, phishing sites, cookies, and other tools that compromise privacy and security.
  9. More intuitive interface – The Back button only appears on the address bar if there is a page to go back to, and when it does, it’s bigger and easier to click. Firefox 3 applies favicons more consistently to bookmarks, you can click a site’s favicon to get extended site identification information. There are many more improvements of the interface.
  10. More robust and intuitive Add-ons manager – You can search and install extensions and themes right from the pop-up box, no browsing required.

So what are you waiting for? Help yourself by using a new revolutionizing web browser and help Mozilla set a new Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. Download Firefox 3 today!

Twitter with ads!

I noticed that Twitter puts ads by DoubleClick on its user pages in the Japanese translated version. You could check it out yourself by going to my Twitter page and then selecting Japanese from the language dropdown list. You need to be logged out of your twitter account in order to see the language selection box.

A screenshot of the page with the ad:
Twitter with Ads
Well we all know Twitter needs a lot of support for their current problems, so a small ad box wouldn’t upset its users I guess. Atleast it doesn’t bother me although I don’t have many Japanese followers. What about you? What are your comments about the ad box in Twitter?

Orkut introduces Themes

A few Orkut users from India are reporting that they are getting a new option to change the theme of their profile and scrapbook pages. These themes are not javascript hacks or Orkut apps, they are official themes by Orkut. Only a limited number of users have access to this feature and you can choose between four different themes.

I got a few screenshots from TechBuzz:
Spring Time Them
Beach Theme
Country Side ThemeOfficial announcement is yet to be heard on the Orkut Blog. They usually release new features within two weeks of testing them with a few users so most probably we’ll get to see it soon.

So what do you think, Orkut is trying all this to outrun Facebook? Hmm…
