Google to Acquire Digg

Google Digg DealNews about Google acquiring Digg were first heard in the blogosphere about 5 months ago but Digg CEO Jay Adelson declared those news as rumors almost as soon as the news spread. This time its not looking like a rumor. The two companies have reportedly signed a letter of intent and are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News brand. Sources say the acquisition price in arount $200 million.

TechCrunch reports that the two companies are in final negotiations, although it could take a couple of weeks before the deal is closed. Despite the major deal points been agreed on, the acquisition could nevertheless fall apart. Google has been recently spotted testing a Digg style voting method in their search results too.

If the Google-Digg is agreed upon, Digg’s three year ad deal would be terminated. Microsoft was also previously bidding high for acquiring Digg. They don’t seem to be interested in it now.

Would you like Digg under the Google brand?

  1. I just feel like Google knows everything I’m doing at all times. Oh, hi Google, no I wasn’t doing anything..

  2. @J Haha! Now that is quite possible. They are basically ruling the Internet! šŸ˜€

  3. Google has their hand in too much already. Digg has been unreliable since some seem to be in the top numbers too regularly for their info to be true. Since I don’t rely on Digg, it doesn’t matter to me what they do. I hope Google never acquires Stumble.

Goodness. Does that comment make sense? I need more coffee. LOL
