Google Launces Its Own Wiki Service – Knol
Google had announced a few months ago that they were testing a new service called Knol. Today they launched the service Google Knol. Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects.
“The key principle behind Knol is authorship. Every knol will have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content. It’s their knol, their voice, their opinion.” – This is how the Google Blog describes Knol. A diagram explaining how Knol works:
You can even earn a part of the revenue generated from your Knols if you have an Adsense account.
We think this is basically an attack by Google to its new competitor – Wikipedia. Let us see whether Google Knol succeeds to beat down Wikipedia and deliver quality content like them.
